A Place We Belong
(Thematic Teaching for Grades 1–5)
Guest artists: Orff Schulwerk with Kateřina Judová
and Dita Votavová
Pilot implementation: spring 2025
This integrated arts education project for grades 1–5 connects school subjects with living culture and creative experience. Pupils explore different meanings of home—as a place of safety, memories, and change—and learn to perceive it not only as a space but also as a relationship and a feeling. Through literary, visual, musical, movement, and drama activities inspired by the principles of Orff Schulwerk, they develop creativity, cooperation, and empathy. The project emphasizes experiential learning and interdisciplinary links and culminates in a shared presentation—a celebration, exhibition, or performance—where children share their experiences of home.
Thematic Model (Grades 1–5) Integrated subjects: Czech language, mathematics, introductory science and social studies, local and national studies, music education, visual arts, physical and drama education, practical activities, computer science, ethical and personal development education
Garden Festival
The theme HOME inspired an interdisciplinary approach and took the form of a celebration that connects children’s creativity with the history of the place. Visitors could join a guided walk through the villa and garden led by child guides, watch a music-and-movement performance based on the Orff method with Kateřina Judová and Dita Votavová, visit an exhibition of pupils’ visual and literary works, and enjoy a concert by the klezmer band Ganifim.
